Edinburgh – a class trip

On our class trip to Scotland, we managed to improve our English speaking skills. We were supervised by Dr Nilges and Dr Pfeffer.

On Monday (29 January 2024), we arrived at Edinburgh Airport at 3.30pm. After everyone had picked up their luggage, we got to our hotel, the Holiday Inn Edinburgh Zoo, by bus. When everything was settled, we chose to have dinner. We went to the restaurant “The Bothy Murrayfield“. The food was delicious and the service was good. Once we got back to the hotel, some of us had a look at the gym. After that, we played card games for the rest of the evening, and the first day was over.

On Tuesday, we visited Edinburgh Castle at 10.30 am. We had a guided tour around the castle, which was very interesting and informative. It added to our English lessons where we had already talked about Scottish history and read the play “Macbeth” by William Shakespeare. After the tour we had a little bit of free time and then met at the “Camera Obscura and World of Illusions“, where we had fun with different optical illusions. When we got back to the hotel, we decided to eat at the on-site restaurant, which had a great menu and delicious food. After dinner, some of us went to the indoor pool and hotel sauna.

On Wednesday, our morning routine was similar to Tuesday. At around ten we visited the National Museum of Scotland, where we stayed for two hours. It was very interesting since the museum had many different departments with various collections. After that, we had the opportunity to explore Edinburgh by ourselves. We ate lunch and went to a sports bar by bus. At the bar, Robin and I had a great time playing darts while the others chose to play pool. That evening we had dinner at the hotel restaurant again. We spent the rest of the evening at the on-site Spirit Health Club and in the lounge.

On Thursday, we had breakfast at 6.30 am since the tour to Loch Ness started very early. It took seven hours to get to Loch Ness because we were driving through the Highlands as well. The bus driver told us many interesting facts about the different lochs. At Loch Ness, there was also a nice restaurant and a shop where we took pictures together. In Edinburgh we had dinner at an Italian restaurant. Later that evening we played games in the lounge.

Friday was our last day. We ate breakfast and packed our clothes in order to check out at twelve o’clock. After that, we went to the zoo, which was right next to our hotel. We discovered the zoo with an assignment. There were many different animals like meerkats, koalas, sloths, penguins and even a rhino. The zoo had a dinosaur area as well. We had lunch at the restaurant and explored the souvenir shop until 4 pm when we had to pick up our luggage and take the bus to the airport. At around 7 pm, we flew back to Germany with Ryanair.

It’s incredible how much we have learned and experienced together. This trip has been so much more than an educational experience. We’ve had amazing moments and have grown together.
